Rapid Prototyping of Planar Infrared Waveguides

چکیده
A method for creating planar As2S3 waveguides with a minimum of processing steps is proposed, and the resulting waveguides have been characterized. When the processing parameters are optimized, the losses are low enough for practical use. The authors demonstrate this by creating serpentine waveguides with multiple bends and lengths in excess of 23cm. Keywords-component; chalcogenide glass; optical waveguides; rapid prototyping; infrared.

Integrated plasmon and dielectric waveguides.
We have designed, fabricated and characterized surface plasmon waveguides for near infrared light in the telecommunications spectrum. These waveguides exhibit losses of -1.2dB/microm and can guide light around 0.5 microm bends. Light can also be efficiently coupled between more conventional silicon waveguides and these plasmon waveguides with compact couplers, and we demonstrate that surface pl...

Ion implantation in optical materials is increasingly used in fabrication of optical waveguides of micrometric dimensions. Implantation has been proved to form planar and channel waveguides in YAG single crystals [1, 2]. Planar waveguides are obtained by homogeneous irradiation of the crystal surface with He or H ions at a given energy (in the MeV range), while mask technique has to be used to ...
متن کاملChalcogenide Glass Optical Waveguides for Infrared Biosensing
Due to the remarkable properties of chalcogenide (Chg) glasses, Chg optical waveguides should play a significant role in the development of optical biosensors. This paper describes the fabrication and properties of chalcogenide fibres and planar waveguides. Using optical fibre transparent in the mid-infrared spectral range we have developed a biosensor that can collect information on whole meta...
متن کاملInverted deposition and high-velocity spinning to develop buried planar chalcogenide glass waveguides for highly nonlinear integrated optics
We report on buried planar waveguides in a highly nonlinear infrared transmitting chalcogenide glass, fabricated using a combination of inverted deposition of the molten glass phase and high-velocity spinning. Films of gallium lanthanum sulphide sGa:La:Sd glass were deposited onto an expansion coefficient matched Ga:La:S cladding substrate. These amorphous films, with an optimized composition d...
متن کاملPlanar and UV written channel optical waveguides prepared with siloxane– poly(oxyethylene)–zirconia organic–inorganic hybrids. Structure and optical properties
Organic–inorganic hybrids were prepared using ureapropyltriethoxysilane, methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane and acrylic acid modified zirconium(IV) n-propoxide precursors and were characterized by small angle X-ray scattering, X-ray diffraction and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The results indicate an effective interaction between the zirconium-based nanoparticles and the siliceous nanodomain...
